AmCham: US business in Russia not in that much trouble
ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 17 (PRIME) -- The U.S. business that works in Russia is not doing as badly as many people think, Robert Agee, president the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham), said late on Thursday on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
A recent AmCham poll showed that only 11% of the chamber’s members have left Russia, only 4% were thinking whether they should leave or not, while 85% of the companies stayed, and many of them even decided to expand their activities, Agee said.
Alfredo Gozzi, director of Italy’s Confidustria Russia, agreed.
“In spite of the existing problems, which are many, the Italian companies mainly stayed in Russia, they are doing stable business in the country, they continue working with the Russian partners, and they have no plans to leave the local market,” he said.
The majority of Italian companies that work in Russia are small and medium-sized, and these companies are not that dependent on the external pressure unlike large corporations, he said.
